Ken Neumann: Team Mediation
Ken Neumann comes to the mediation field having had training both as a child psychologist and a family therapist. He has been working in the field of divorce for more than 35 years. In addition he has a background in business having been the Chief Executive Officer for a not-for profit organization for 15 years. Divorce mediation was a natural joining of Ken’s therapeutic skills and business interests.
Ken started doing mediation in 1982 and was one of the founders of the Center for Family and Divorce Mediation. The decision to form a Center was the decision to make a long term commitment to the mediation field. This commitment was to develop both a theory and a framework on how to do mediation and then to train others in this process. Ken has been involved in the training of over one thousand mediators.
Over the years Ken’s focus has been on the tough cases. He is frequently called in to work with such couples and has supervised countless mediators in their work. Ken has been at the forefront of developing new mediation techniques and processes including Team Mediation, where both mediator and attorneys actively participate in the process from the very beginning. He also has developed a detailed model on how to break deadlock in the typical custody case. In addition to being an active trainer Ken is a frequent presenter at mediation conferences.
Ken has served on numerous boards including the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, the Family & Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York, Child Find of America and the Association for Conflict Resolution Family Section.
